Today we are providing details about Norfolk County Council’s deployment of our GasBoxes at a closed landfill site in the UK.
This was a successful test project led by the Environment Agency and part funded by the EU LIFE environment programme. (ACUMEN = Assessing, Capturing and Utilising Methane from Expired and Non-operational landfill).
During the first year of operation, the engines generated more than 100 MWh of electricity and avoided carbon emissions of more than 1,000 tCO2e per annum. Up to 90% of the methane produced at the site was removed.
This site has provided a successful model for other organisations managing the 20,000 closed landfill sites in the UK.
